Who are they and what do they do? Children of Mother Earth was founded by Ravi Rai – a brave Singaporean who quit the good life here in Singapore, took all this savings in a knap sack, gave up his job as a Civil Engineer and prospective good looking could-be-Indian brides to go save children suffering and abandoned on railway stations in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh in Northern India. For the Singaporean government to see fit and give him the 2002 SIF Award speaks volumes on how proud they are of someone surrendering his own needs to partake in what is a mammoth task. India has also recognised his good works and the local governments there help his cause when they can. Ravi has been doing working consistently for over ten years now, so he is no fly-by-night philanthrophist/Humanitarian, nor will you find him on the glossy pages of your magazines ~ Today he is the father of about two hundred or more children who live in three homes he set up for a well balanced childhood to take place so that they will grow up knowing that they are loved and valuable human beings. He could use all our help, however small your donation is, it goes a long way ~ Ravi knows that his work is made possible through the contributions of people who care enough to say 'what can I do to save at least one single child' which adds to the collective whole of his intentions to help as many little ones as he possibly can. Please join us in supporting this relentless hardworking man to feed and nourish the family which has now come to be known as Children of Mother Earth. The picture of the home on this page was Ravi Rai's ancestral home which he converted for the children he supports. He shies away from the word 'orphanage' and insists 'this is their home' and they now have a family to support them. They do so much it would ridiculous to mention it all here. Instead, if you think the work that Ravi Rai is doing is worth supporting please feel free to contact him directly about his ongoing work on www.comeinternational.org Want to help? Write to me for further information on child sponsorship, donations for his school-building projects or one-off donations toward the basic needs of the children i.e. food, water and shelter. We would love to hear from you! Louella Henderson for Children of Mother Earth projects Singapore |
